Tornadoes struck southeastern Missouri, causing widespread damage and killing at least 5 people. The tornado touched down around 4 a.m., according to the Storm Prediction Center. on Wednesday and passed through a village south of St. Louis.
Photos showed extensive damage to houses damage from the strike appeared most significant in the village of Glenallen, about 100 miles south of St. Louis, multiple agencies began to search and rescue operations. The twister was one of the numerous tornadoes that hit Missouri, Iowa and Illinois, spawning from severe thunderstorms that struck the area between northern Arkansas and southwest Michigan on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
Parts of the southern and central U.S. were also hit by tornadoes in recent days, killing at least 32 people.
