政府為因接種新冠疫苗而死亡的「疫苗保障基金」，派出第二宗賠償。一名74歲男子去年接種第一針復必泰疫苗後，於同日死亡，死亡原因證實為缺血性心臟病及速發嚴重過敏反應。保障基金委員會指，未能確立個案於打針有因果關係，而基金亦批出200萬賠償。
根據記錄於前年一名66歲女子接種復必泰疫苗後死亡，疫苗保障基金批出200萬賠償。而是次批出220萬元，為暫時基金最高賠償額。
政府專家孔繁魏指，低風險人士於接種3劑疫苗後，暫時不用再接種，政府希望專注顧及高風險人士，並認為防疫已經進入新階段，完成接種3劑疫苗的非高危人士可自行決定是否付費再接種疫苗。
Government Pays Out Record Compensation for Covid-19 Vaccine Deaths
The Hong Kong government paid out HK$2.2 million in compensation from its Covid-19 Vaccine Compensation Fund, the highest payout so far. The compensation went to the family of a 74-year-old man who died shortly after receiving his first dose of the Comirnaty vaccine last year.
Health authorities confirmed the man died from acute heart attack and severe allergic shock. Though they could not conclusively determine a causal link between the death and the vaccine dose. The compensation fund committee still approved the payout.
Previously, the fund paid HK$2 million to the family of a 66-year-old woman who passed away following her Comirnaty shot last year. The recent HK$2.2 million payout marks the largest compensation amount from the temporary fund so far.
“For those at low risk of infection, 3 doses are sufficient. We want to focus resources on high-risk groups,” said the government health expert. “Epidemic prevention has advanced to a new phase. Non-high-risk individuals who've had 3 doses can decide themselves if they pay for re-vaccination.”
The government set up the HK$5 billion Vaccine Compensation Fund to provide financial support to those seriously injured or families of those dead following government-promoted COVID-19 vaccinations. While the fund has approved multiple payouts, health officials stress that no link has been conclusively proven between any cases and the vaccines.
The government maintains its position that COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective, while health experts continue monitoring for anyside effects. Non-high-risk groups are not currently recommended for additional jabs though some may opt to pay for re-vaccination if they choose. The fund payouts signal the government's commitment to ensure public trust in its vaccination program.
