一名31歲男子去年11月26日，於一輛由銅鑼灣駛往天水圍的巴士遺下一個背包，其後一名休班警務人員拾獲，疑見財起意，取去背包內3張八達通及電子器材包括手提電腦及平板電腦，並把背包遺棄於天水圍天耀路一個路邊花槽。
警方就事件展開深入調查，發現該3張遺失八達通於2022年11月26至28日期間曾經被盜用，損失金額共約770元。警方根據線索於2022年11月29日拘捕該名26歲男警員，並於天水圍住所起回部分失物。警方經諮詢法律意見後，控告該名男警員5項「盜竊」罪，將於明日上午再屯門裁判法院提堂。
A 31-year-old man left a backpack on a bus travelling from Causeway Bay to Tin Shui Wai on November 26 last year. An off-duty police officer found the backpack and, suspected of having been tempted by its contents, took three Octopus cards and some electronic equipment, including a laptop and tablet, out of the backpack. He then abandoned the backpack in a roadside planter on Tin Yiu Road in Tin Shui Wai.
The police launched a thorough investigation into the incident and found that the three lost Octopus cards had been stolen and used between November 26 and 28, 2022, resulting in a loss of about HK$770. Following up on the clues, the police arrested the 26-year-old male police officer on November 29, 2022, and retrieved some of the lost property from his residence in Tin Shui Wai. After seeking legal advice, the police charged the male police officer with banditry and he will be on trial in the Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts tomorrow morning.
